Breakdown

Shot: Reefer Racks

This was one of the shots from the project that I worked on. It required painting out existing shipping containers in order to replace it with new reefer racks located in between new rows of shipping containers. In order to achieve this, I used camera tracking, camera projections, rotopaint work, and integrating CG elements into the plate.

The fist thing I did upon receiving the original plate was distort the sequence. I then rotated the plate so that the shipping containers would be aligned with the frame of view.

The next step was to create a 3D camera track of the sequence.

I then created a scene, and added a plate to act as the ground in order to paint out the current shipping containers.

The below shows the camera track.

In order to create a realistic concrete texture onto the ground, I used footage from another sequence of an empty section of the port as a projection onto the plane.

Next, I created a second plane and aligned it in the correct space so that I can paint back in the sidewalk, and bottom layer of shipping containers.

I was then able to paint the lamp and first container rack on top of the plane.

To complete the next part of the shot, I integrated CG elements and shadows with the plate.

The last part of this shot, was to track and roto the sequence of the hand and marker using Mocha Pro, and integrate it into this plate with the black line.
